What happens if you dont maintain your pool?

Without proper maintenance and care, a dirty pool can cause recreational water diseases (RWI). This may sound alarming, but a well-maintained pool leaves nothing to fear. Not having water in your in-ground pool can cause catastrophic damage. If you drain the pool completely and the water table around the pool is high, the “hydrostatic” pressure of the groundwater can lift the concrete or fiberglass pool off the ground.

It can also “float” vinyl siding, leaving large pools of water beneath the coating. Operational chlorine systems keep pool water clean and free of algae If you're not up to chlorine because there's no one swimming in the pool, expect algae to visit you and wreak havoc on your pool. Not only can poor pool maintenance pose a health hazard as a result of inadequate water balance and the build-up of bacteria for you and those who use it, but not taking care of the pool water can cause costly damage to the pool liner, which can eventually break if not maintains the right water balance. While the short answer is that you can leave your pool looking like the creature from the Black Lagoon, the really scary answer is that you could shorten the lifespan of your pool by up to 50 percent if you don't maintain it properly.

So, unless money is a very serious issue, it's best to open and maintain the pool yourself or hire a pool service or a local children's home for the summer, especially if you're planning to travel a lot or be out of town for long periods of time.
